Exciting redevelopment plans for Clacton Library given the go ahead

27 August 2025

We're excited to report that planning permission has recently been granted for the redevelopment of Clacton Library, paving the way for the creation of a new, multi-purpose community space.

The new multi-storey building will be built on the existing library site and will include a brand new library and community facilities, a new Adult Community Learning centre, and local registration services.

Temporary arrangements and alternative locations will be put in place to make sure that residents will be able to access key services during the redevelopment. Full details of these arrangements will be shared ahead of construction to help residents plan ahead.

The new building will include more functional and modern spaces to support the needs of the community, with the number and variety of library books being maintained.

The redevelopment is part of a wider programme of regeneration projects in Clacton Town Centre. Last year, Tendring District Council, supported by Essex County Council, was awarded almost £20 million in government funding to deliver these improvements.

In March, Tendring District Council received planning permission for the neighbouring site. Plans include a new car park, modern homes and a vibrant mixed-use community space.

Work will now begin on technical design and tendering for a contractor to construct the scheme.
