Show homes at Lexden Gardens in Colchester open

Show homes have opened at the Lexden Gardens development on the site of the former Essex County Hospital in Colchester.

This marks a key milestone in the construction of the development. Over the next month the first collection of homes built as part of phase one will be available to purchase.

This phase includes 63 new one, two and three-bed apartments. It combines the sensitive restoration of the grade-II listed main hospital building with the construction of contemporary new-build apartments.

Later phases will deliver a mix of one- to three-bedroom apartments and three and four-bed townhouses. These will be designed to high specifications with integrated appliances, features such as electric vehicle charging and photovoltaic panels, and access to private and shared outdoor spaces.

The scheme is being delivered by Essex Housing, Essex County Council’s in-house development arm. It represents a sensitive and ambitious transformation of a heritage-rich brownfield site into a vibrant, modern residential community.

Lexden Gardens was in part made possible with £50,000 of revenue grant funding and £2.5 million of capital grant funding through central government’s One Public Estate programme.

This programme supports the creation of high-quality housing and utilisation of public sector land that was surplus to requirements.

We know there is strong demand for good quality homes in Essex, and this development will help meet that need in Colchester. It’s great to see this site being brought back into use, creating new homes for local people.

Homes at Lexden Gardens are priced from £280,000 for a one bed, from £375,000 for a two bed, and from £500,000 for a three bed.
