New housing scheme in Chelmsford granted outline planning permission

The redevelopment of the Former St Peter’s College site in Chelmsford has moved a step closer by gaining outline planning consent.

The proposed scheme has allocation for up to 185 modern new homes and up to 60 homes for independent living for older people (known as Extra Care).

The development is being bought forward by Essex Housing, Essex County Council’s award-winning in-house development team and these plans have been the result of lengthy consultation over many months.

The planning application was unanimously approved at the Planning Committee on 6 October 2026. The Council will now explore next steps for the delivery of these much needed new homes for the local community.
