Vital new homes ready for residents to move into in Waltham Abbey

07 March 2024

The completion of a development of 26 affordable and specialist homes in Waltham Abbey has been celebrated.

The Shernbroke Way development features two apartment blocks with 10 modern apartments for adults with disabilities and 16 affordable homes.

The scheme is a result of a partnership between Essex Housing, Essex County Council’s in-house developer, and Chelmer Housing Partnership (CHP).

The Shernbroke scheme is a great example of how through Essex Housing, we can turn land and buildings no longer needed into new homes and community assets across Essex. I am delighted to mark this important milestone today as we are now ready to start welcoming residents into these much-needed new homes in Waltham Abbey.

Councillor Lee Scott, Cabinet Member for Planning a Growing Economy

Work began in August 2022 on this site, which featured a vacant and derelict building once used as a former hostel.

The event marked the completion of construction and the sale of apartments to CHP, who will be managing the scheme going forwards.

Essex County Council will retain “nominations rights” for the 10 apartments for adults with learning disabilities, to house those most in need of this accommodation.

The completion of Shernbroke will provide much needed new homes for residents who most need it, providing them with safe, secure, comfortable accommodation to call home.
