Work has begun on a new housing development in Waltham Abbey
09 January 2023
Essex Housing have begun work on a new modern housing development in Waltham Abbey.
The vacant hostel building at Shernbroke Road has been demolished and work has now begun on two new buildings incorporating 26 modern apartments, making a more efficient use of this derelict site and providing high-quality homes in a sustainable location.
Planning permission was granted for this innovative development on the former Shernbroke Hostel site on Thursday 16 March 2022.
I’m delighted that Essex Housing have reached this key milestone to deliver this scheme and look forward to seeing it progress in the coming months. This site is a perfect example of how Essex Housing is striving to deliver new homes that our county so desperately needs, as well as shaping great places for our residents to live.
Cllr Lesley Wagland OBE, Cabinet Member for Economic Renewal Infrastructure and Planning.
This new development is part of an exciting programme of 1,010 new homes Essex Housing are bringing forward, 48% of which are either specialist or affordable housing to help older people and people with disabilities to live independently.
