Planning permission for the redevelopment of the Clacton Library site was granted in August 2025, paving the way for the creation of a new, multi-purpose community space.
The new multi-storey building will be built on the existing library site and will include a brand new library and community facilities, a new Adult Community Learning centre, and local registration services. The new centre will also offer modern and flexible conferencing and co-working spaces that can be rented by local organisations and the wider business community.
Temporary arrangements at an alternative town centre location will be put in place to ensure that residents will be able to access key services during the redevelopment. Full details of these arrangements will be shared once the contract has been awarded to the successful bidder to help residents plan ahead.

The new building will modernise and expand the facilities of both the Library and Registration Services as well as provide an exciting new learning and work environment for Adult Community Learning and other local services.

The redevelopment is part of a wider programme of regeneration projects in Clacton Town Centre following significant investment by both Government and the local authorities to deliver these continued improvements to encourage greater pride and economic success in the town. This includes the neighbouring Carnarvon Terrace scheme, which includes a new car park, modern homes and a vibrant mixed-use commercial and community space.

Following achievement of the planning permission to redevelop the Clacton Library site, a tender process to secure a preferred contractor the construct the new building commenced, and it is anticipated that contract award will be later this year.
